For too long, residents of District 5 have watched important community decisions be made without their meaningful input. Important issues — from unchecked data center development to rising property taxes — have been handled without transparency, accountability, or a long-term plan. Syam Kosigi is running to change that, bringing four core priorities to the County Council.
Across Delaware — from Newark to neighborhoods throughout the state — data center development has become one of the most talked-about local issues. While data centers are essential for powering modern technology, many residents feel that the way these facilities are planned, regulated, and managed has created serious concerns.
Community members raise issues about environmental impact (enormous electricity consumption, millions of gallons of water), unbearable noise levels, and a regulatory model that leaves communities feeling unprotected. My goal is to challenge the current revenue model, push for stronger oversight, and work toward solutions that balance technological progress with environmental responsibility and community well-being.
Syam believes that a temporary moratorium on new data center approvals is the need of the hour — a necessary pause to allow the community, environmental experts, and local officials to establish proper safeguards before any further expansion is permitted.
Open spaces are the lungs of our communities. They clean our air, cool our neighborhoods, reduce flooding, and give people safe places to walk, play, and connect. When open space disappears, the impact is immediate — hotter streets, more runoff, more noise, and a lower quality of life.
Protecting open space is not an option but a necessity. It is a core community foundation, just as important as roads, schools, and public safety. As council member, Syam will champion policies that preserve green areas, resist overdevelopment, and ensure future generations inherit neighborhoods worth living in.
Residents across New Castle County are frustrated by recent property tax increases that were approved without clear alternatives, transparent explanations, or a long-term plan to stabilize the system. Homeowners feel they are being used as the default solution for budget gaps.
What's missing is a strong voice on council willing to question these decisions, demand options, and insist on fairness and accountability. Syam will push for transparency in every budget decision, explore alternative revenue strategies, and fight to ensure homeowners are not left holding the bag while other solutions go unexplored.
Local businesses are feeling the pressure of tax reassessments and outdated regulations that make it harder for them to operate. Many business owners say the current system is too bureaucratic, too slow, and too rigid.
They are asking for a simpler, more flexible way to do business — one that reduces red tape, encourages growth, and allows them to focus on serving the community. Syam will listen to business owners, cut unnecessary bureaucracy, and advocate for a regulatory environment that rewards entrepreneurship and keeps dollars circulating in our local economy.
Every issue Syam raises comes from listening — to neighbors, business owners, parents, and longtime residents of District 5. His approach is not to impose solutions from the top down, but to amplify the community's voice and hold the County Council accountable.
